What to Wear in Early Spring?

Updated: Mar 23, 2023

Oh spring. After a cold winter we all ache for those temperatures to start rising, the sun to shine a little more and the buds and flowers to start popping. But when mother nature can't make up her mind to send snow or sun it's hard to know exactly what to wear and keep in our closets.

WHEN TO START DRESSING FOR SPRING

The Spring Equinox falls between March 19-21 depending on the year. Where I live, there is often still snow on the ground when the equinox rolls around and Mother Nature seems to get confused with the seasons. Although the tulips are sometimes blooming at this time, they often have a sprinkle of fresh snow around them.

By March most retailers have their spring lines on the clothing racks and I believe it is the perfect time to start transitioning the wardrobe. However, I don't recommend going short sleeves and sandals just yet.

Finding pieces that can transition from winter to spring and spring to summer are the perfect option.

WINTER TO SPRING TRANSITIONAL CLOTHING IDEAS

TRANSITIONAL CLOTHES FOR SPRING: THE BLAZER

An all year round staple piece, the blazer is the perfect transitional wardrobe must.

I love a pop of color, especially when temperatures are still a little chilly but spring is known for pastel pinks, greens, and blues.

You can find blazers at many different price points and colors - I found THIS gorgeous pastel peach blazer at Walmart! If you need ideas on how to style a blazer, you can see my post HERE

TRANSITIONAL CLOTHES FOR SPRING: SWEATERS

Sweaters are fantastic for layering. Not only to transition to fall, but an excellent choice for spring.

You can wear a simple sweater during the day paired with jeans and flats and in the evening switch to heels and a coat.

Picking the right color for the season is a must. I often choose warm tones like deep oranges and greens in the fall, but for spring, light and bright colors are best. Of course, white and cream are always a good idea and transition to all seasons seamlessly.

TRANSITIONAL COTHES FOR SPRING: DETAILING

Little details are all the rage in spring. Details like puff or flutter sleeves, buttons, pops of color, fedora hats, textures and florals.

This puff sleeve top for example has texture and detailing with the fabrics chosen. Pair it with jeans and pops of bright or pastel colors or flip the script and add a pleated skirt.

This bodycon sweater dress is an absolute favorite of mine. Not only does it have amazing details like buttons and texture with the knit fabric but it looks stunning and the bright green really pops.
