The Best Homemade Donut Recipe

Donut stress, just do your best!

Eat more HOLE foods!

Abs are great, but have you tried donuts?

Donuts, those deliciously, delightful rings of fried dough. Donuts or doughnuts - however you like to spell it, have long held a special place in our hearts and taste buds. A classic treat enjoyed by people of all ages.

I'm a huge fan of EASY and love a good store-bought option but there's something uniquely satisfying about creating homemade donuts - could it be the excitement and delight on the faces of my 4 boys? Yes - that definitely adds to the satisfaction. Everyone gets excited when that familiar hot oil, fried donut-ness hits their noses.

Today, I'm sharing 3 ways to make homemade donuts. From super easy to a bit more time consuming - but ALL deliciously satisfying!

1 important tip before we get started! SAFETY! Because you are working with hot oil - stay safe! Have the proper tools (oil thermometer, good pot and slotted spoon, etc.) and keep the kids away!

What temperature should I fry donuts?

HOT! It is recommended to heat your oil between 365° and 380° - keeping in mind that as you add dough your oil cools slightly.

If you need a deep fry/candy thermometer, HERE is one I use and love.

Another necessary tool is a donut cutter! THIS one is a great buy from Amazon, but I have one more similar to THIS one - both are great options!

Homemade Donuts The QUICK And EASY Way

I learned this trick from my mother-in-law and love how quick and easy it is!

Supplies:

Canned biscuits

Oil

Once your oil has been heated and is ready, take your biscuits out of the can and using your fingers make a hole in the center and roll them around through the center to widen the hole.

Fry, frost and ENJOY!

SO EASY!

Next up - another super easy and fast way to make donuts - no rising needed.

2 Ingredient Homemade Donuts

Want a little added protein? Enter Greek Yogurt! My older boys are super into the gym and are always looking for ways to add more protein into their diets - but they also like treats. Although it isn't a "healthy" treat - it does provide more protein which is essential for growing boys (and girls).

There are so many things you can make with the combination of self rising flour and greek yogurt like pretzels, fry bread, bagels, pizza crust, breadsticks, flat bread - this combo is fantastic and so much fun to experiment with.

For 2 ingredient donuts you will need:

3 cups self rising flour

1 1/2 cups plain Greek Yogurt (we use Chobani)

Combine ingredients in a bowl until dough forms. Roll out on a floured surface and using a donut hole cutter, cut into your shapes. Fry, Frost, Enjoy!!

And finally we're onto the third way to make donuts! The time consuming way - but oh so worth it because they are fluffy and sweet - but not too sweet - just right! Enjoy these fresh! Of course the kids will eat them day old (or a few days) but I like them best within a few hours.

The Best Homemade Donut Recipe

It is not my own recipe. I have made zero adaptations to it. The first time we tried them my boys exclaimed that they were the best homemade donuts they had ever had. That was enough to stop me from my usual recipe experimentation.

This recipe has the best tips and a thorough tutorial! The creator is the kind of blogger I aspire to be!

If you can't find the time for any of these versions - a store bought option is always a good idea! Our local grocery store has some exceptionally tasty ones and as you all know - I love EASY! Any way you decide to create your donut experience - I hope it's a tasty one!

XOXO,
