In this blog post, I will guide you on how to create a mouthwatering family size taco charcuterie board that will impress your guests and make your fiesta even more memorable.
How to Make a Family Size Taco Board:
Choosing the Perfect Charcuterie Board
The first step in creating a taco charcuterie board is selecting the right board or platter. Opt for a large board or platter that can accommodate all the ingredients and toppings you plan to include. Wooden cutting boards, slate boards, or large trays work well for a rustic and authentic presentation. Alternatively, you can use a colorful or patterned board to add a touch of fun and flair to your setup. Just make sure it's big enough to hold all your taco ingredients and toppings.
Gather Your Taco Ingredients
The key to a successful taco charcuterie board is to provide a variety of taco ingredients and toppings that cater to different tastes and dietary preferences or let's be frank - picky eaters. I kept it very simple and purchased all my taco ingredients pre-made from Costco! However, if you'd like to do it all homemade, here are some essential ingredients you'll need to gather:
Tortillas: Offer a selection of tortillas such as corn, flour, or even lettuce wraps for a low-carb option. I added pre-made quesadillas for kids that don't like tacos.
Proteins: Include a variety of cooked proteins like grilled chicken, beef, or pork.
Salsas and Dips: Provide a variety of salsas, dips, and sauces like pico de gallo, guacamole, queso, or sour cream for added flavor.
Vegetables: Include a colorful array of vegetables such as diced tomatoes (or pico), lettuce, and cilantro to add freshness and crunch.
Cheeses: Offer different types of cheeses like shredded cheddar, Monterey Jack, or crumbled queso fresco for a creamy and savory touch.
Extras: Don't forget to include extras like beans, rice, corn, jalapenos, or even sliced avocado to add more options for customization. Or in my case - FRUIT!
Arrange Your Taco Charcuterie Board
Once you've gathered all your ingredients, it's time to arrange your taco charcuterie board. Start by placing your meats first. I used a cast iron skillet for my chicken which kept it warm (don't forget the hot pad underneath as not to burn your board). Then I added bowls filled with salsa and other fixings, added space for the tortillas, and then filled in the gaps.
Be creative with the arrangement! Use different shapes, colors, and textures to create an inviting and visually appealing spread. You can add small serving spoons or tongs for easy serving and allow guests to customize their tacos to their liking. Don't forget to provide plenty of napkins and small plates for a mess-free dining experience.
Enjoy the Taco Fiesta!
With everything arranged, it's time to dig in and enjoy the taco fiesta! The interactive nature of the taco charcuterie board will not only be a hit with kids and adults alike but also make for a fun and memorable dining experience. Even my teenager who doesn't often give me much by way of expression gave me a "Wow, mom this is dope - thank you SO much for dinner." That's big. Like huge, big. Did that alone convince you that you need this board in your life??
Tips for creating a family sized Taco Charcuterie Board:
Customize Your Taco Charcuterie Board
One of the best things about a taco charcuterie board is its versatility. You can easily customize it to suit your family's preferences or dietary restrictions. For example, if you have guests who prefer vegetarian or vegan options, you can include plant-based proteins like black beans, grilled tofu, or roasted vegetables as taco fillings. You can also provide gluten-free tortillas or lettuce wraps for those with gluten sensitivities. The key is to offer a wide variety of ingredients and toppings that cater to different tastes and dietary needs, so everyone can enjoy their tacos to the fullest.
Get Creative with Presentation
Presentation is key when it comes to charcuterie boards, and a taco charcuterie board is no exception. Get creative with how you arrange and display the ingredients. You can use small bowls, ramekins, or even hollowed-out bell peppers or avocados to hold salsas, dips, or toppings. You can also add some decorative elements like sliced limes, sprigs of cilantro to add a pop of color and freshness to the board.
Encourage Interaction and Fun
One of the best parts of a taco charcuterie board is the interactive aspect of building your own tacos. It's FUN to get hands-on and have a blast with the process. You can provide small tongs, spoons, or even taco holders to make it easier for guests to assemble their tacos. You can also set up a "taco bar" station where guests can mix and match their favorite ingredients to create their own taco masterpieces. This will not only add an element of fun to the meal but also create memorable experiences and conversations among your family and friends.
A family size taco charcuterie board is a creative, delicious, and interactive way to serve tacos that will take your fiesta to the next level. So, gather your family and friends or picky teenagers and spice up your next taco night with a taco charcuterie board, and let the fiesta begin! ¡Buen provecho!
