St. Patrick's Day Game Board DIY
St. Patrick's Day is just around the corner, and if you're looking for a fun activity to celebrate the occasion, why not make your very own DIY St. Patrick's Day game board? This project is easy to make and can be enjoyed by people of all ages (especially teenagers - because MONEY!). Here's how to get started.
Materials Needed:
Large white poster board
Straight edge
Pencil
Sharpie Markers
Prizes
Prize holders (hats, glasses, boxes, balloons)
Game board pieces (we like to use coins)
Dice
Step 1: Measure and Mark
Using a straight edge and pencil, measure and mark out 2 inch spaces along each side - leaving about 4 inches at the end for a starting area. Connect the marks to create squares. Each square should be approximately 2 inches by 2 inches. If you want to make a larger game board add a second poster board. For a smaller board, cut the poster board in half.
Step 2: Design game board icons
Using sharpie markers, create icons that represent an action, a prize, or a pitfall. The prize icons should coincide with your prizes and prize holders like shamrock glasses with money tied on the center, leprechaun hats, balloons, etc. Each row should contain the exact amount and style of game board icons.
Step 3: Gather Prizes
It's St. Patrick's Day so get creative and have fun. Money is a great motivator in this game. Candy is also a fun option. We'll be adding gift cards this year since we have driving and dating teenagers. It's always fun to invite friends to play as well (have them donate a few bucks toward the prizes). For packaging the prizes think clovers, leprechauns, rainbows, pots of gold, or any other symbols associated with St. Patrick's Day.
Step 4: Game board pieces
Your game board pieces are how you move along the board. These can be anything - we like using chocolate coins but if you're doing this for another holiday then try to find something associated with the holiday or color scheme.
Step 5: Play the Game
To play the game, simply roll the dice and move your coin along the board. When someone lands on an icon they will do the action, receive a prize or slide back down the board. But here's the catch - you don't get to keep any prizes until the end of the game! If anyone lands on a prize icon that has already been landed on it is passed around. Once someone reaches the end of the game board, no more prizes are transferred and what you have is yours to keep! May the luck of the Irish be with you!
I know you'll love making this St. Patrick's Day game board because it is a fun and easy project that can be enjoyed by the whole family. Whether you're celebrating with friends, family, or just by yourself, this game board is sure to bring some St. Patrick's Day cheer to your day. So get creative and have fun making your very own DIY St. Patrick's Day game board!
XOXO,
Kimberly Marie
