Holiday Traditions: Breakfast with Santa

At the end of every family Christmas party since my boys were little, Grandpa Santa would enter the room carrying a bag of gifts for the kids. They would all squeal with delight as he gave them each a present. Because of that joy, I began a tradition to do Breakfast with Santa. Sometimes it was 'grand' and others it was a simple trip to Kneaders, a local bakery, where Santa visited on Saturdays. As my older boys have grown into teenagers, it's not so cool to visit Santa. However, I wanted to keep the magic alive for the little ones. This is when "Daddy Santa" was born.

On a Saturday in December, Daddy Santa and his elf (me) get to work on a breakfast for the kids. Some years we make cinnamon rolls, others waffles - this year Santa pancakes. Find the tutorial here. We make it fun and special complete with Christmas music, letters to the REAL Santa, and of course, food - which, as a mom of boys I've found to be the way to their hearts. Even though the teenagers often roll their eyes or have their AirPods in listening to their own music, they still appreciate the tradition and are much happier throughout the day because we started it by focusing on them.

I purchased a simple and cheap Santa suit online when we started this tradition - it's nothing fancy. Eventually I'd love to invest in a nicer suit - perhaps when grandkids come around - but the one we have does a nice job and Daddy Santa only tolerates it for about an hour. I've linked a few below ranging in price. It's been a great investment as I use the suit for other activities as well. A nice Santa hat or elf hats for each guest are a fun thing too if you don't want to do the dress up thing.

Included with our breakfast every year, the kids write letters to Santa with items on their wish list. It's fun to save them from year to year to see how much they grow and change. I've included a FREE printable below for you to use to write your own Santa letters.

Do you do this tradition OR will you start??
